Study programme objectives:

The first degree programme in Business and Management aims to produce a graduate who is familiar with research methodology and terminology in management and in complementary disciplines such as economics, finance and legal sciences. The graduate possesses advanced knowledge in management and related disciplines, knows the basic principles of the creation and development of various forms of entrepreneurship and is prepared to act in an entrepreneurial manner. He/she has the skills and competences to recognise, diagnose and solve problems related to the functioning of an organisation and to determine the impact of the environment: technological, social, political, legal, economic and ecological, on the functioning of an organisation and the economy as a whole.

The studies are designed to produce graduates with the skills to prepare independent and collaborative studies on the functioning of organisations, the sector and the economy as a whole, and to present them communicatively in English. The study prepares you to learn and update your knowledge independently and to adhere to professional ethical standards.

Classes are held at the premises of the Faculty of Management of the University of Warsaw, at Szturmowa 1/3, Warsaw.

Classes are held from Monday to Friday from 8.00 a.m. to 4.00 p.m. on average.

Profile of a graduate

Graduates in terms of knowledge:
  • has knowledge of the nature of management science and its place in the system of social sciences, as well as its subject and methodological links with other scientific disciplines. Perceives management as an interdisciplinary science.
  • knows and understands the terminology and methodology of research in the discipline of management and quality sciences and in complementary disciplines: economics and finance, legal sciences.
  • has knowledge of the functioning of organisations, their various types, objectives, structures, operations (functions, activities), cultures and relations with the environment.
  • knows the procedures and practices of effective management of organisations.
  • has knowledge of the following functions: operational, marketing, financial, personnel management, in organisations.
  • knows and understands economic theories and models, concerning the functioning of organisations and the economy as a whole.
  • knows and understands legal regulations, concerning the functioning of organisations and the economy as a whole.
  • knows techniques for analysing the impact of the external environment on the functioning of an organisation.
  • knows the methods and tools, including techniques for obtaining, analysing and protecting data, needed to make decisions in organisations.
  • knows and understands basic concepts and principles in the field of industrial property and copyright protection and the necessity of intellectual property resources management.
  • has knowledge of the basic principles of creation and development of various forms of entrepreneurship.
Graduate in terms of skills:
  • is able to correctly interpret social, political, legal, economic, technological phenomena and their impact on the functioning of organisations and the economy as a whole.
  • analyses proposed solutions to specific problems connected with the functioning of enterprises and proposes appropriate solutions.
  • is able to independently analyse real decision-making situations and select an appropriate decision.
  • is able to assess the market, financial and social effects of decisions and projects and to provide substantive justification for them.
  • is able to prepare analyses, diagnoses and reports on the functioning of an organisation, a sector and the economy as a whole, both individually and in teams.
  • is able to use information and communication tools in his/her work.
  • has the ability to prepare oral presentations and written assignments using basic theoretical approaches and a variety of sources in Polish and English.
  • has the ability to use a foreign language at B2 level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages of the Council of Europe and to use in that language specialist terminology in the field of management.
  • has the ability to interact and work as part of a larger or smaller group, taking on different roles in teams, demonstrating leadership, communication, conscientiousness and perseverance.
  • understands the need to complement and improve acquired knowledge and skills, including in second-level studies.
  • possesses basic research skills such as formulation of research problems, selection of research methods and tools, development and presentation of results in the field of management science.
Graduates in terms of social competence:
  • can make critical judgements related to the functioning of the organisation, the sector and the economy as a whole.
  • is able to think and act in an entrepreneurial manner.
  • demonstrates sensitivity to ethical and social issues and cultural differences.

Graduates of this major will be able to take up employment in, among others:

  • industrial and service companies,
  • state administration
  • local government administration,
  • non-profit organisations.

Potential job positions include: analyst, specialist, senior specialist, middle manager, etc. A good background in management science provides the basis and a convenient starting point for personal development and achieving career advancement. This promotion requires not only professional experience, but also continuing education in second-level studies, postgraduate studies or specialised courses.

2) Checking the candidates’ competence to undertake studies conducted in the English language

Candidates are obliged to hold one of the documents accepted by the University of Warsaw, certifying their competence in the English language at least at the B2 level.
