BUW information

Ladies and Gentlemen,

I would like to inform you that from Monday, February 19 this year. We are restoring the ban on entering BUW wearing outerwear.

Please provide information about the change effective from February 19, 2024 to lecturers and students from your faculties. I am particularly asking you to inform lecturers and students who take part in teaching activities at the BUW premises about it; so far, they left their outerwear on hangers in front of the rooms, and since February 19 this year. this will no longer be possible.

I would also like to remind you that it is prohibited to bring large luggage to the library.

All people who want to use BUW stationary from February 19 this year. will be obliged to leave:

outerwear in the cloakrooms located on both sides of the entrance to the library,
backpacks, briefcases, bags, handbags, etc. with dimensions exceeding 40x30x15 cm in self-service boxes with dimensions of 85x45x25 cm available in the cloakroom located on the right side of the entrance to the library. It is not possible to leave large luggage in the BUW cloakroom that does not fit into the lockers.

The obligation to use the cloakroom will apply to all library users, including participants of conferences and teaching classes taking place on the premises of BUW, and is re-introduced pursuant to Circular Letter No. 1/2024 Acting Law. Director of the University Library in Warsaw of January 31, 2024. Its restoration is dictated by security reasons and was indicated as a necessary solution during the audit conducted at BUW in the last months of 2023.

Leaving outerwear in cloakrooms and larger bags in lockers will contribute to increasing the safety of people, the book collection and the BUW space.

More information about the changes being introduced is available on the library’s website.

Kind regards

Ph.D. Jolanta Talbierska

Settlement of the winter semester 2023/24

The first year of studies – semester settlement – resit examination session ends on March 3, 2024. Lecturers have until March 20, 2024 to enter their grades in USOS. By the end of March, you must complete all subjects required in the study program or submit an application for conditional entry to the next stage. Conditional entry may be granted to a student who has a maximum of 1/3 of uncredited ECTS points required in the study program (in the first semester, the requirement is 30 ECTS).

2nd year of studies – annual settlement

Third year of studies – annual settlement

The Dean’s Office reminds you about the need to connect subjects to the study stage, both in the winter and summer semesters. Subjects that are not linked and their ECTS points are not included in the total ECTS points, therefore the program requirements are not met. A student who passes all subjects but does not complete them has 0 ECTS points.

Information about language courses received from the School of Foreign Languages

Students participating in language classes in the winter semester they should register for the summer semester on their own.

If a student no longer has tokens, should pay the fee for the next semester of language classes.

Students who decide not to attend for important reasons for classes in the summer semester, they will be able to deregister (only from the summer semester!) by:

26/01-30/01/2024

and re-register or re-register for classes with available places

and register for new e-lecture groups for the summer semester on the following dates:

01/02-19/02/2024
23/02-27/02/2024 2nd round (corrections)

Registration always starts at 9:00 p.m. and ends at 23:59.

All new students must register INDEPENDENTLY for foreign language courses via the USOS system – token registration: https://rejestracja.usos.uw.edu.pl/catalogue.php

Students are asked to carefully read the instructions for registering for language courses available on the registration pages; instructions on the website of the Foreign Language Teaching Center of the University of Warsaw: https://szjo.uw.edu.pl/?page_id=3679

Data in the registration system are refreshed periodically and therefore a delayed flow of information, e.g. results of placement tests, should be taken into account. Students who have not yet taken the placement test and will be registering for language courses in the summer semester for the first time should take the placement test, which is available from January 8 to February 25, 2024 at: https://kampus.come.uw .edu.pl/course/index.php?categoryid=28

You only need to take the test once during your studies, but failure to do so will prevent you from registering for a foreign language course. Migration of the placement test result takes up to 2 days – only after this date will it be possible to register for a foreign language course.

The results of placement tests are intended to help in choosing a language course. However, it is the student himself who decides on the final choice of level. The results of the placement test are not binding. Registration includes taking a placement test, but the test result does not limit the possibility of enrolling in a selected language course. A student can enroll in a selected group, even if it has a different level than the result obtained in the placement test.

Group level markings refer to the target level, i.e. the level achieved after completing the course.

Students who are not registered for language courses at USOS will not be able to receive a grade for the course. This is due to the lack of the name of the unregistered student in the USOS protocol.

Part-time students have the opportunity to take advantage not only of groups dedicated to them, but also of other “token” language classes at the University of Warsaw, if they are able to participate in classes that take place during the week and not on weekends. Part-time students can take full advantage of the full range of language courses, and, just like every UW student, they have 240 language course tokens at their disposal.

In the case of e-lectures, a student can only participate in a course at each level once!

In case of problems with registration, students can use the help of the Student Affairs Office of the School of Foreign Languages of the University of Warsaw (student.szjo@uw.edu.pl) or the Office of Didactic Innovation of the University of Warsaw (jezyki.koordynator@uw.edu.pl).
